Teaching Philosophy

Hello and welcome! I am a private teacher at the Jupiter Academy of Music. My studio offers lessons in classical piano, theory, and music braille.

I deeply believe that everyone has the potential to learn and love music. As a teacher, I strive to nurture well-rounded musicianship in my students, and to prepare them to explore their highest creative potential. Lessons give attention to reading, listening, and technique in equal measure, and students have many opportunities to perform and celebrate their hard work throughout the year.

I find special joy in exploring each student's unique learning style, and watching them discover the music they love. My goal is to offer quality music instruction one on one in an encouraging and curious environment, and impart the love and language of music to sighted and tactile readers alike.

Studio Capabilities

The studio is equipped with two beautiful grand pianos, adjustable benches, and a foot step/pedal extender. Students may ask to borrow from our small library of solo and ensemble music, including method books, theory and textbooks, duet/duo, trio, and chamber music scores, as well as from our listening library. For those who wish to explore music that is not readily available, original arrangements are occasionally provided.

The curriculum for the beginning blind student is based on a collection of early method books authored by Richard Taesch, and supplemented with engaging repertoire. The student first establishes a functional knowledge of the braille music code, followed by literacy in piano music in bar-over-bar format. For students with low vision, lessons may incorporate the use of Lime Lighter software for screen magnification and color variation.

Biography

Tiffany Goff is a pianist, composer, and teacher with an award-winning studio based in Jupiter, Florida. She received her education in piano performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she studied with Paul Schenly and Emanuela Friscioni. Passionate about new music, she frequently performs the works of living composers and has given a number of world premieres.

Active as a composer, Tiffany specializes in classical and electroacoustic genres, and has also composed incidental and vocal music for theatre. While in Cleveland, she wrote and arranged music for several plays at the historic Cleveland Play House, including Legacy of Light, An Orchard, and Cloud 9, and was commissioned by Case Western Reserve University to score their production of Euripides' Medea.

Tiffany has been teaching piano for 15 years. Her students, aged 4 to 18, enjoy numerous performance opportunities throughout the year, competitive and non-competitive. Her students have been awarded internationally, with invitations to perform at such venues as Carnegie Hall, NY and Mozarthaus, Vienna. With the support of a 2018 Teacher Enrichment grant from MTNA, Tiffany completed the Music Braille course at Miami Lighthouse for the Blind. Her studio offers instruction utilizing the BANA Music Braille code for blind or vision-impaired tactile readers.

Recognizing the importance of different keys for different hands, Tiffany maintains the site skinnykeys.com where she advocates for multiple keyboard sizes.

Tiffany is a member of the Music Teachers National Association, National Guild of Piano Teachers (American College of Musicians), Pianists for Alternatively Sized Keyboards, and National Braille Association.
